Different products need different processing. So, how to choose the right winder for your project?

Anyone who has ever wound a garden hose knows that a good winding technique makes all the difference. That is also the case with the products and intermediates in the vast field of cable and wire production. But with even more factors to consider.
Different products need different processing. So, how to choose the right winder for your project?
First of all, you need to decide between pay-off and take-up. That may seem trivial, but is an important distinction right from the beginning. Many of the winders and reelers available can basically be used both for pay-off or take-up. Nevertheless, the direction of rotation and control unit must be set up accordingly. Switching from take-up to pay-off or vice versa is possible, but requires significant changes to the machine afterwards.
Following that, coil size, coil weight, product properties and production speed are among the most important aspects to consider. You can’t wind every conductor on every coil. There are physical limitations. You must maintain certain degrees of deflection and take into account the weight that presses down to the lowest layer. And in the case of high speeds, centrifugal forces need to be calculated to keep everything under control.
For higher production speeds, the use of a dancer is recommended. It helps to maintain a stable process by constantly balancing the tension.
As part of our production lines, we offer a wide variety of pay-offs and take-ups for all cable and wire product segments. That offers the great advantage that all machines come from a single source and the process is perfectly coordinated right from the beginning.
If you are looking for high-speed double spoolers to upgrade your existing line, have a look at our RODS series that is also available as single machines to complement your existing line.
Get to know RODS, our semi-automatic double spooler for high-speed insulation processes up to 1,500 m/min with reels of up to 2,500 kg in weight.
