Inline quality control for magnet wire production
Real-time scanning replaces time-consuming offline inspections
Ensuring the right wall thickness in magnet wire has long been a time-consuming task. Manufacturers had to bring the insulation line into production mode, cut and cast a sample, and then inspect it offline. All while keeping the line running to maintain the wire’s current properties. If the sample fell short of specifications, the line had to be readjusted and the entire procedure repeated. Hours could pass, and scrap would pile up, before production could finally move forward with confidence.
The new inline wall thickness scanner changes that: Integrated directly into the production line, it continuously monitors wall thickness across both height and width of the wire. Operators can check the wall thickness in real time, compare them to target tolerances, without preparing offline samples.
The result:
- Faster start-ups
- Significantly reduced scrap
- A much simpler quality control process.
Also available as a standalone device
The wall thickness scanner works for both extruded and enamelled magnet wire and can be integrated into existing extrusion lines or used as a stand-alone device.
